getting my wheelchair in the car ☺️💛💪🏻 as an ambulatory wheelchair user with a power attachment! this has taken a few years to perfect, but i’ve now got a routine for getting my mobility aids in the car 🚙 usually, i’d have help from my family/partner/friends, but i can actually lift my Empulse F35 attachment independently (which is a first!!!) when lifting my Street Jet, i split the weight between 2 people and we lift it together 🫶🏻 hopefully this is interesting and answers some questions for you guys! #disabled #disabledcommunity #wheelchair #wheelchairuser #accessibility #accessibledesign #ambulatorywheelchairuser #wheelchairlife #accessible #accessibilitymatters #tutorial #empulsef35 @RGK Wheelchairs @Sunrise Medical
travel can be HARD as a disabled person! 😅 over the years I have been left on many trains & countless travel days have completely gone wrong I feel like that’s something you have to expect as a disabled person! We shouldn’t, but unfortunately, that’s the reality right now 👎🏻 but… travelling has really taught me to accept change & deal with problems as they come, because some things are *always* going to go wrong in life I’m actually a much happier person now that I roll (no pun intended) with these things instead of judging myself as a failure & feeling bad every time something doesn’t go to plan 🩷 #disabledcommunity #wheelchairuser #wheelchair #wheelchairlife #accessibility #accessibletravel #fail #disabled #disability #chronicillness
i am slowly falling in LOVE with how accessible the netherlands is! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the cycling structure of the country is incredibly useful for wheelchair users & with an attachment I can practically function as if i’m a bike! this means i can… • go shopping independently without needing additional transport • get to nature areas/forests without a car or risking getting stuck • experience “cycling” alongside friends and family • zoom down roads without worrying about potholes and being hit by cars! i’m from the UK, which means i’m used to incredibly uneven roads, potholes, bumpy country lanes & not many cycle lanes at all - this is a massive difference for me! 🥹💞 i would love to make more videos on other accessibility differences i’m discovering… would you guys like to see more?? ✨ #disabled #disabledcommunity #wheelchair #wheelchairuser #accessibility #accessibletravel #accessibledesign #netherlands🇳🇱 #netherlands #netherlandstiktok #dutchtiktok #fietsen #nederlands #rolstoel
why are mobility aids SO EXPENSIVE?!! 😩😭🫠 we have to pay £10k+ just to get around when other people can walk long distances #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #disabled #accessibility #wheelchair #wheelchairuser #chronicallyill #dysautonomia #disabled #disabilitytiktok #disabledcommunity
#ad how do mobility aids actually help my body? using heartrate data from my @visible.health armband 🫀 (ad) usually my daily tasks while standing cause my heartrate to be high! and this causes lower energy & more crashes 😅 but now, comparing this to the pace points & heartrate while in my wheelchair… my stats are much lower, and I’m not in over-exertion zone 📉 i can also see the difference between pushing my chair manually VS with my power attachment (spoiler alert: there’s a BIG DIFFERENCE!!!) → less over-exertion throughout day = better pacing, more energy! ✨ i can see how different tasks affect my body = able to use mobility aids for the tasks which affect me the most mobility aids & pacing techniques allow me to do things i wouldn’t usually be able to - like going to concerts, taking public transport, travelling etc! 🥹 • #chronicillness #disabledcommunity #visiblehealth #heartratemonitor #dysautonomia #chronicfatigue #pacing #chronicallyill #wheelchairuser #disabledcommunity #disabled #accessible #wheelchair #spoonie #chronicillnesscommunity
THE SPECIAL INTEREST CONTINUES 😌🍂✨ lots of you neurodivergent/autistic people might relate to being absolutely obsessed with heartstopper (hello to all the fellow queers!!!) I absolutely loved the books when I first read them and then became obsessed with the show ✨ this was a whole evening interacting with people who love being themselves in a queer space & info dumping about books 😎🫶🏻 (aka the perfect social event for a nervous autistic person haha) Here’s what we got up to at the event! 💛 p.s - isn’t sponsored at all, I just genuinely bought tickets to this event and thought it was really cool 😭 📍 @Waterstones@Waterstones MCR Deansgate #disabled #wheelchairuser #accessible #queer #queercommunity #heartstopper #aliceoseman #lgbtq🏳️🌈 #queerbook #BookTok #neurodivergent #autisticadult #autistic #autism #specialinterest @xena!🧑🏻🦽🫶
Replying to @✨ should we have to apologise for offensive tics? 😅🙈 it’s a difficult subject to approach, and everybody has a slightly different stance on where the line is drawn but i personally try to ignore my tics as much as possible & quickly apologise or show a medical ID card if my tics ever do cause a problem 💛 at the end of the day, tics are involuntary! we CAN NOT control them and we don’t choose what we say 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 so if you come across somebody saying slurs as a tic, or doing offensive gestures, please try to be open minded and kind! 🫂 #neurodivergent #tourettes #tourettesyndrome #ticsandtourettes #ticsawareness #education #coprolalia #neurodivergenttiktok #neurologicaldisorder #qanda
Happy #TSAwarenessMonth 💙 (May 15 – June 15) - It's time to share exactly why we need more awareness about Tourette’s, and what a different world we could live in if people truly understood This is a storytime of a negative experience I had in school where the teacher didn’t understand my condition and judged me before letting me share the facts 😅 💬 Do you guys have any negative experiences like this??? • #IfTheyReallyKnewTS #tourettes #tourettesyndrome #tourette #tourettesyndromeawareness #disability #disabled #disabilityadvocate #advocate #community #neurodivergent #ticsawareness @Tourette Association
It’s #Tourettes awareness day!!! 💙🎗️ so here’s some useful facts about the condition! I’ve been diagnosed with TS for 5 years now, and I’ve learned SO much about myself and how to better manage my tics Here are some resources where you can find support for tics @TourettesAction (UK) @Tourette Association (USA) You can also visit the NHS/mayo clinic websites to research diagnostic criteria - but if you believe you may have a tic disorder please ask your GP or see a medical professional! 🫶🏻 💬 What other facts do you guys know about Tourettes? #disabledcommunity #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #tourettesawareness #tourettesyndrome #ticsawareness #disabilityawareness #neurologicaldisorder #neurodivergentcommunity
DAY IN THE LIFE (travel day edition) ☺️🚄 showing how i travel as a wheelchair user & how im trying to push past anxiety and do new things this year ✨ being able to work freelance has brought SO many opportunities especially as somebody who can’t work a “normal” day job due to my health conditions life has been feeling cool recently, and i finally feel inspired to create & travel again which means more accessibility content 🥹 what videos would you guys like to see??? #disabled #disability #dayinmylife #wheelchairuser #chronicallyill #ambulatorywheelchairuser #accessibility #neurodivergent #representationmatters
what is the best way to clean a wheelchair? 🧽 i’ve always struggled with demand avoidance surrounding wheelchair maintenance (hands up if you do too) so i’ve been trying to find little adpatations to make the process easier mud can be an absolute nightmare when switching from outdoors to indoors in your manual chair 😅 in this video i tested out @BootBuddy to see if it could help wheelchair users too! you are allowed to feel all the emotions 🤎 we are all human!!! ups and downs are a normal part of living it is okay to not feel happy or confident all of the time, and it’s important that we acknowledge both the happy and the hard times 🫂 as a neurodivergent or disabled person that can feel really frustrating to have limitations either physically or mentally I often feel incredibly frustrated at my own body because I can’t do the things I used to love ☹️ BUT… I sit with these emotions and I’ve slowly learn to accept them i focus on what I can be grateful for that I *do* have rather than focusing on things that I can’t do/have 🙌🏻 and i’ve found that life feels a lot less pressured this way :) so, if it’s helpful to you, give yourself some kindness & let yourself feel whatever you need to feel right now, because whatever that is, it’s okay and it doesn’t have to dictate what you do or think going forwards 🤍 you are enough. #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #wheelchair #neurodivergent #MentalHealth #chronicallyill #MentalHealthAwareness #anxiety #depression #autism #autistic #autisticadult #youareenough
i wasn’t always a wheelchair user ❤️🩹 before my chronic illnesses developed, i was a healthy child but over the years i’ve lost mobility and gradually lost my sports, physical activity, social clubs & the ability to work full time/attend school when i got sick again in early 2024, my life changed completely. i lost the ability to do exercise/gym/sports at all, and this was so difficult to accept. i still struggle to this day ☹️ i miss running, flipping, going to trampoline parks, seeing my friends at the gym, feeling the endorphins when exercising, feeling strong & just feeling physically capable but, i’m trying to reframe this and recognise that i HAVE gained some things from my disability too… ⭐️ resilience ⭐️ understanding & true friends ⭐️ forgiveness for myself ⭐️ confidence / not caring about standing out it’s never easy to adjust to something like a disability, but there are always good AND bad things to recognise and work through! focusing on these positives helps get me through the days when i grieve my old life so much that it hurts 💛 to anyone struggling with this right now, i hear you, i see you, i feel you. with time we can adjust & find joy in new places - keep going, we can do this!!! you are not alone 🫂 #disabled #selfacceptance #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #MentalHealth #chronicalllyill #longcovid #chronicfatigue #functionalneurologicaldisorder #fndawareness #wheelchairuser
