Alexander in central Victoria, Australia. Alex was in dire straits, his life hanging by a thread under a heavy, matted fleece filled with rain, twigs, and more. 😔 As we removed the 40 kg of sodden wool, Alex's determination to live became apparent. With vital fluids and a warm jacket, he began a new chapter at Edgar's Mission. After 4 months of daily rehabilitation, Anastasia was able to walk on her own! 🙌😭 Anastasia came into our care on January 1, 2021, found lying helpless in a paddock, severely emaciated and suffering from flystrike. Throwback to one of our most difficult rescues! 🐑❤️ In 2022, after surviving years in the Australian bush, hidden under a massive 26kg (57lbs) of wool, Victoria was finally brought to sanctuary! With the help of 18 dedicated team members, she was rescued after a five-hour trek through the mountains. Though the team lost sight of her several times, they never gave up, and Victoria was finally freed from her burdensome fleece. 💪 Sheep like Victoria need yearly shearing—a result of human breeding for wool, which has transformed them from their wild ancestors, who naturally shed with the seasons. Now, they rely on us for care, food, shelter, and shearing. Almost 3 years ago, April was found lying in a ditch on the side of the road, her body severely emaciated and infested with maggots due to flystrike. 😞 This is her journey to recovery. 🐑❤️ As we look at April, stronger and more resilient than ever, we can't help but wonder if she remembers the day that changed her life forever. The day a kind heart found her, and she was brought to Edgar's Mission. When she arrived it was a shocking sight and we knew we had to act quickly. Please support us by voting via the link in our bio. ✨ Throwback to Rammie Baa Baa’s incredible life-saving transformation! 🐑❤️ This brave boy came into our care three years ago, suffering from a condition rarely seen in his species. His scrotum had swollen to a massive 40+ kilo burden that had come to drag painfully between his back legs. We also found out he was blind, a lasting effect of a difficult birth that tragically claimed his mother. 😞 However, this did not prevent us from seeing him as an animal who was worthy of compassion, kindness, and tender loving care. ✨ With the exceptional help of the Goulburn Valley Equine Clinic, Romsey Veterinary Surgery, and our dedicated blood donor sheep Lemonade and Spartacus, Rammie underwent a successful four-hour surgery to remove the burdensome mass. Meet Try - this is her story of hope. ❤️🐑 In October 2018, kind people came together to save Try, a downed ewe barely clinging to life at the back of a “livestock” carrier, lying next to the bodies of other sheep who hadn’t survived. 😞 Unable to reach her ourselves, we relied on someone with a kind heart who refused to give up. Against all odds, they gave everything to help—and they succeeded. Try’s journey is a reminder that every choice has the power to make a difference. The power of kindness 🙌 🐓 In the blistering summer heat, our dedicated team worked tirelessly to liberate 602 Silkie roosters from a life of unimaginable misery. Hatched for the supposed delicacy of their black flesh, these gentle birds were abandoned in a tiny wire prison, facing a grim fate. But kindness prevailed... At 4.40pm on the 11th of January 2023, hope met the reality of our promise as the last Silkie rooster, our dear Minnesota, was gently lifted from a prison that had been his world for who knows how long. Though we may never know the full duration of his captivity, what we do know is that it was a living hell for him and the 601 other gentle souls who shared his fate. Now, Minnesota struts proudly at the sanctuary, a living symbol of resilience and the promise that no soul is ever forgotten. It's truly a testament to the power of kindness and the impact that one person can make in the lives of animals.
