One thing about me, if there's a seed, I'm going to try and grow it. @AmazingTube, thank you for such an awesome video! Fingers crossed that I'll have some happy dragon fruit seeds to report back on. Follow along for updates! #plantgrowth #plantseeds #dragonfruitplant
After many years of failed snake plant propagations, here’s what I did to finally have success! Snake plant cuttings would always mush and I found no success with propagating until I tried these methods. Once I cut, since it’s a succulent, I did let it sit overnight before placing in water and perlite. I changed water if it was murky or just topped it off with fresh water. And here we are a year later! Have you had success with snake plant propagation and if you did, what was your preferred method of doing it? #snakeplants #plantpropagation #planttips
Peace lily brought no peace so I changed it to Leca LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) is a semi hydroponic way of growing plants. *I went back and trimmed some more roots after filming. It was a little too snug in there. Step 1: Remove all soil! This process is the longest part. Step 2: Rinse Leca to remove clay particles (AVOID rinsing in sink). Step 3: Trim roots if needed (you can trim up to a 3rd of the roots on a plant without major issues) and remove and soft or dying roots. Step 4: Fill net pot or cache with Leca, plant, and fill the rest with Leca to the top. Step 5: Water it in and keep 1/3 filled with water and your liquid fertilizer of choice and place in cover pot. As the plant adapts, it will show active signs of success but will sometimes show stress too. Keep an eye on the plant during this transition and remove dying leaves as you see them. Have you grown in Leca before? Consider following along for more planty tips and if you haven’t already, and leave any questions down below! #leca #semihydroponics #plantcare
I heard you have a holiday cactus that needs some help! 🤔 Care for Thanksgiving, Xmas, and Easter cactus have pretty much the same care, it’s just that its blooms are usually expected to come out closer to the season it’s named after. Succulent soil mix for this one: 50% cactus/succulent potting soil by the brand @espomaorganic and I added 25% perlite and 25 % small orchid bark chunks. We have a lot of fun here! If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments and follow along for more plant care. More care tips here ⬇️ Aloes are those plants that will love the neglect! I live in Indiana, where the winters are below freezing so I can’t keep her outside all year round unfortunately but I make it work! Water 💦: I water when the leaves are a bit more moldable and the soil is bone dry. She can go long periods without water. Soil mix: my typical succulent mix is a combo of half succulent/cactus potting soil and half bonsai jack gravel. 💡indoors: If it’s growing too long and leggy, that tells you it’s not getting enough light. She can sit right underneath a grow light or your brightest window (at least 750 foot candles if measuring with a light meter) for at least four to six hours of direct sunlight a day. Outdoors, she lives a space that gets direct sunlight for 2 hours a day but shade the rest of the time. Aloe can absolutely get sunburned and if they ever become stressed, they turn gray! They can turn back to green once they’re adjusted but something to be mindful of. My house is so bright that you can see it from space 🫣 You can also find all Plant lighting that I use in my plant lighting folder on my Amazon storefront. Remember that lighting is so important for your plants and if you’re not receiving enough natural light (I am not unfortunately), you have the option to incorporate grow lights into your space as well… and shine so brightly! Just whatever you do, don’t look into the lights! #planthelp #plantgrowth #planthumor
Part 1: Creating the backdrop of a bioactive terrarium All items You can find the list of items in my Amazon storefront. You can also find the long form version of this build on my Youtube channel- PlantswithKrystal The biggest tip is to let every part dry overnight before moving onto the next step. There’s a lot to cover so don’t hesitate to ask any questions in the comments and stick around for the next video which will cover substrate, adding isopods/springtails, and of course the plants! #bioactiveterrarium #plantproject #enclosures
Moving wasn’t an option yet so the big chop had to happen. Air layering is a method of propagating stems still attached to the mother plant. I cut a slit in a bag with the sphagnum moss/perlite to keep the nodes in contact with the moss and kept damp. A cutting of this size could take a longer time to root or you may find you’ll lose leaves while the cutting is trying to grow new roots. You could chose to score the node before adding the moss (it may take faster to rooting) but l decided to leave as is and it was a success! Taking this cutting, when I repotted it, I added it back into its pot so it could live its best bushy life with the rest of its family. Don’t be afraid to chop plants, it helps create a fuller plant in the long run. Follow along for more plant care and plant projects. The goal here is to get you to grow a successful monstera! Soil mix: 35% indoor potting soil- whatever is accessible to you! I use the one by the brand fox farm. 35% coco chips- it comes in a brick when you buy it. Then you saturate it and break it down 15 % orchid bark 15 % perlite Monsteras will need some kind of support as it continues to mature to help grow those larger fenestrated leaves. You don’t need to use a moss pole to get those large leaves, I stay away from them personally because I forget to keep them damp. I prefer to use a wooden stake, plank, or a trellis. Grow light shown is the aspect hanging light by @Soltech Solutions - code plantk22 gives you 20% off. We have alot of fun around here! Nervous to chop your monstera!? Here’s where to cut and the process after the propagation. Roots will also start to grow out from the node which typically can take 6-8 weeks, but HAVE PATIENCE. If it’s not dying, it’s still working! Side note: for tropical houseplants, you do NOT have to let it sit and callous but I let this one sit for a few hours and then plopped into water. For cactus and succulents, its a must for me to let callous after propagation for rot prevention. Any other questions, leave them down below and follow along for more planty care along the way. #monsterapropagation #monsteraalbo #plantcaretips
Is winter dormancy for the VFT necessary? Yes if you want it to live its best life for long term! Here’s some more info for INDOOR dormancy tips: States with nights that don’t drop below 32 degrees: The windowsill will be a bit cooler during this time during nighttime temps so just avoid watering until it’s about halfway dry. If you’re the lucky ones that get to keep it outside for dormancy, there’s nothing you need to do other than make sure its safe and keep an eye on the weather (it’s not dropping consistently below 32 degrees). Nature will rain on it and it’ll take care of itself. States with night temps of 32-55 degrees Fahrenheit: If you’re placing it in a garage, water with distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water when it’s about halfway dry and keep on a window sill or near a garage window. States with night temps of 32-55 degrees Fahrenheit or if you don’t get night temps this cold: With fridge dormancy, you do want to check on it every week and make sure the moss is still damp and Water with distilled water, rain water or reverse osmosis water. And if you want a carnivorous plant but don’t want to deal with dormancy, a pinguicula or a drosera are GREAT beginner plants! See…. What happened was… a bird ate it… No, but really, I had my oxalis triangularus under a lovely grow light and when it was time to bring my cactus back in for the season, I changed the oxalis location and it hated it. Screamed at me! So here we are now. Let see how many bulbs I can save to regrow this baby! #oxalistriangularis #plantproblems #planthelp
Every plant will have different watering needs, so never water on a schedule, check your soil, and water thoroughly when its time. #wateringplants #planthelp
And the MUST HAVE item for new growth: Light and water! That’s it! This is my Ficus Altissima! By chopping just a small portion of a plant produces auxin that shoots down that stem of the plant that “wakes up” the growth points through the stem. With a healthy plant and giving it continued care and light, that stick will turn into a plant with nice new leaves in no time. #rubbertreeplant #plantpropagation #planttips
