They have the exact same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds.💎 There two ways to grown a lab diamond: High pressure, high temperature (HPHT), and chemical vapour deposition (CVD). Both methods replicate the conditions within the earth’s crust creating a real diamond. Think of it like this: Is a strawberry grown in a greenhouse any less real than one from the wild? Of course not. In fact, greenhouse grown strawberries are often higher quality thanks to the controlled environment. It’s the same with lab-grown diamonds: fewer impurities, greater consistency, and stunning quality. 3 Things to Remember when Engagement Ring Shopping 💍 1. White Gold vs. Platinum White gold is made by mixing natural yellow gold with other metals to achieve its white colour. At Cullen, we use palladium, a premium, hypoallergenic alloy that gives white gold a soft grey tone with minimal yellow. Many other jewellers use cheaper metals like nickel, which can cause skin irritation and make the gold appear more yellow over time. Since white gold isn’t naturally bright, it’s rhodium plated for that crisp white finish, but this plating wears off and requires redoing every 1–2 years. That’s why we recommend platinum: it’s naturally white, hypoallergenic, incredibly durable, and requires far less maintenance in the long run. 2. A Support Bar A support bar, or gallery rail, sits beneath the centre stone and plays a crucial role in the ring’s structure and security. It helps protect the stone from impact, prevents it from twisting (especially in elongated shapes), and reinforces the claws to reduce the risk of bending or loosening. While some jewellers leave it out to save on materials, we always include a support bar, with the exception of a few specific designs, to ensure your stone stays beautifully and securely in place. 3. Lab-Grown Diamonds Lab-grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds, offering the same brilliance and durability. They’re created using HPHT or CVD methods, which replicate the natural conditions found deep within the Earth.
