Making nesting cutting boards, what do you think of how they turned out? I cut the templates on the laser out of 1/4" acrylic, rough cut and then flush trimmed to the template. Cutting a giant rabbet into a solid oak timber using the 5hp Powermatic shaper! I'm using a huge 5.9" diameter insert carbide cutter taking a 1.75" tall x 1" deep rabbet and the machine had plenty of power! My dust collection is woefully underpowered to keep up with the amount of chips being produced here, that will definitely need to be addressed soon! Rough cutting the nesting cutting boards using the templates we cut out on the laser. We get a lot of questions about how the Auto Tool Changer works, and it works by knowing the difference in height between each bit. I installed all bits into the tool holders and measured the offset, or difference in height, between all 5 bits. The machine now knows the difference and when I set my z zero position to the material it can now adjust when it swaps out for the bits. Using a variable router jig to pocket for this steel table leg on the back of this cherry table top. I used some setup blocks around the leg equal to the offset from my guide bushing, the 1/2" downcut bit worked perfectly following the variable template, once the majority was cut a corner chisel made for easy squaring of the edges for a perfect fit! Unboxing, setting up and putting our new 5hp Powermatic Shaper to the test! To say this machine is a beast is an understatement. Everything on this machine just screams heavy duty and quality down to all of the adjustment knobs on the machine. I was blown away at how smooth the machine feels to use, so much different than the experience of using a router table, I didn't expect that! The power is also incredible, with the large rabbet cutter I was taking a 1.75" tall x 1" deep cut in a single pass, crazy. More powerful dust collection and adding a power feeder are next, but so far I'm blown away with how amazing this shaper is! Squaring up this oak timber on the Jet 8" helical head jointer! Mistakes happen, it's how you fix them that matters! The mistake I made here was in how I oriented the grain of the wood, I put the most likely part to chip out of the handle on straight grain rounding a corner. The chipout was inevitable and I should have oriented it differently on the piece. I save all of my offcuts from a project until the project is done and was able to find a perfect match so that you really can't even tell there was ever a mistake. If you've tried to put a full 3/4" dado stack on your SawStop Table Saw, you know the problem, there's not enough shaft to install both the arbor washer and the arbor nut.  Leaving the washer off could provide uneven compression that could distort the blade and compromise cut quality.  Dado Nut merges the arbor washer and arbor nut into one integrated unit. The threads extend almost completely through the arbor washer and the nut is retained within the washer.  This may fit some other saws, in addition to SawStop, that utilize a 5/8"-12 tpi right-hand Acme threaded arbor. Edge banding, trimming flush and easing over the sharp edges on this melamine door. While you would normally be working on multiple doors and cabinet parts at a single time, I wanted to show you the entire process of trimming out a door from start to finish.
