These pots definitely can be used, but be aware of these little details that can make a big difference in the health of your plant. These sealed ceramic pots with tiny (often clogged) drainage holes are better suited for plants being kept outside. #plantsoftiktok #plants
Here’s how I take care of orchids, including the lighting and watering. I’ll make another video when I repot and manage the flower spike. #orchids #plantsoftiktok
A customer dropped off their ZZ plant for a repot- but it turned out to be more extensive than we thought! Here’s how I fix an overwatered ZZ plant. The process will be the same for other plants, but potentially with different soil. #plantsoftiktok #plants
When underwatering goes too far, roots can die! My Hope for this plant is more frequent watering so that the leaves can refill and become the succulent beasts they once were. It’ll take some time- but absolutely doable. #plantsoftiktok #houseplants @Big Foot Microbes
It’s houseplant repot season here in the northern hemisphere, although it may not feel like it! Here’s a repot I don’t get to do often but is a great option that most people don’t consider! #plantsoftiktok #plants
Yellow buds on your orchid is called bud blasting, and can happen for several reasons- including some that I didn’t mention in this video. Over the years this is what I’ve noticed to be most common reasons for bud blasting. #orchids #plantsoftiktok
When plants are kept in low light, their risk or root rot increases due to lack of oxygen in the soil. Light, air movement, soil composition, and potting material are all considered when increasing oxygen flow in the soil for the roots. Because we’re keeping this in low light I’m choosing to reduce the amount of moisture-retaining material (soil) as well as a pot material (terra-cotta) that is porous, further increasing oxygen flow to the roots and reducing risk of root rot. *you may end up needing to water more frequently utilizing this method #plantsoftiktok #plants
Here are the techniques I use to repot Peace Lily-soil recipe included! I've also included a way to reduce transplant shock which I find invaluable for plants like this! #plantsoftiktok #houseplants
This is one way plants communicate what’s going on with them. Many are great communicators- you just need to know what to look for! #plantsoftiktok #plants
We went to @Vizcaya while visiting Miami and had a tour of their jaw dropping grounds! We were swept away with delight and cannot wait to go back to see how things are getting along. #plantsoftiktok #plants
I wouldn’t normally repot plants until Spring because light is scarce right now and light helps tremendously with shock. Fortunately these plants are under a grow light, so those guidelines don’t apply! If you’ve never used this fungus for your plant, they’re missing out- it’s what they use in nature! #plantsoftiktok #plants @Big Foot Microbes
Disturbing a plants environment causes them stress, often resulting in yellowing leaves shortly after. Throw in a stressful repot on top of location change and the plant may kick up a fuss. One thing we can do to help our plants recover from this stress is to remove parts of the plant that use energy from the plant to stay alive, but don’t produce their fair share of energy in return, or in the case of blooms, any at all! #plantsoftiktok #plants
Using beneficial fungus when repotting houseplants has wonderful results! I’m looking forward to seeing the results on this maidenhair fern! #plants #plantsoftiktok @Big Foot Microbes
The customer requested the plant stay in the same size pot. Even though it could go up in pot size there’s no need to unless you’re trying to make a giant plant. I don’t know their reasoning for wanting it in the same size pot but it’s perfectly fine and will give more room for overwatering error. #plantsoftiktok #plants
Kokedama are fun ways to grow houseplants, you can be especially creative in how you display them as well. Again, this isn’t a traditional or true Kokedama, so perhaps I should say, “Kokedama inspired.” I also hesitate to say “any plant” can do well in Kokedama, but I’m speaking in generalities. I’ll say the vast majority of houseplants you’ll see in any shop or garden center can be grown in this style. #plants #plantsoftiktok
Today Erika and I took on the Scindapsus Pictus a customer dropped off for a repot. She was a healthy queen and I have no notes. #plantsoftiktok #plants
