Lambswool, ice wool, domette, etc, this wool layer between the boning and the outer fabric is a nifty way to create a smooth finish that looks stunning and striking! We see it a bit in pad stitching, a technique used in suit making that helps stabilize areas like lapels and collars, and now we see this being translated over into couture fashion! Personally I love the way these ultra smooth, slightly puffy garments look, and I have used it a few times to really give pieces a soft finish! If you are short on cash or don’t want to use wool sheets (which are made by shearing sheep and chaotically matting the fibers down btw which is ethical) you can try bamboo batting or cotton batting, so long as they are natural fibers that can be shaped with heat and steam! Would you give this a try? . PLEASE NOTE: when searching up ‘ice wool’ materials on the internet you will find them for sale but they are also listed under an offensive term for Inuit people. This can be uncomfortable to some and I just wanted to give you that warning and hopefully we can change the name of this material soon. #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial #lambswool #icewool #couture
I started crafting way before I started sewing, and that snowballed into the incredible career today. From my first hand beaded piece to walk the runway in 2016 at the her universe fashion show, to winning that event four years three years later…it’s been so much fun to look back and see how far I’ve come and how far I will get to go! #sewingtutorial #cosplay #sewing #sewingtiktok
Stylish and functional: at least that’s how I look at it. I don’t have the exact date waistband tape began becoming a part of corsetry but it was around the 16th century, when Catherine de Medici first started to ‘waist train’ or what we now know as tight lacing. It wasn’t popular then, and faded into obscurity for a few hundred years until tailors realized it also played an important role in design: dispersing the tension on the seams evenly, all the way around the body. (Think like pant/skirt waist bands!) This was not only more comfortable for the wearer (think of like modern day compression garments, how they cover a bigger area of your body not just the small, wounded area) but it also helped with longevity for those who wore corsets everyday all day, doing all kinds of labor in them! . Nowadays waist tape is saved for the most couture of corsets, or added as a decorative piece, but the function is still there: more comfort, longer longevity. Try adding some waist tape (also known as twill tape) to one of your corsets and see what happens! #sewing #fantasyfashion #sewingtutorial
Understitch! Popular for garments that are woven, garments with linings and even some couture, this clean edge technique will keep your lining fabric hidden and your fashion fabric crisp and clean! This was THE first thing my mom taught me about making dresses and clothes, and you’d think for being the first skill I got I’d be better at it 🤪 but it’s always going to be a work in progress around here, and I hope some of the information I shared helps you guys make gorgeous necklines and lining lines too! #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial
How to make cake clothes!! Have you ever wanted to eat your clothes? Then let me help by introducing you to decoden cream, a silicone glue clay combo that looks and feels just like icing (I don’t know if it tastes like it so lmk) and it’s flexible, fun and a great addition to costumes, cosplays and clothes for the ball! #sewingtutorial #sewingforkids #cosplay #renfaire #cottagecore #isitcake #cake
Making armor for the FINAL time 🤨 this was such a freaking nightmare….i struggled maybe way more with the 3D print version over the foam version, but for entirely different reasons. I have a new respect for people who make armor now 🫡🫡🫡 #cosplay #renfaire
Let’s talk about Fabric Lamination! This fun technique is done in a myriad of ways (from special glue to vacuum sealers to even screen prints!) but this is a fun and easy way to create unique textures on stretch knit fabrics just like the designs from Fantastic Four itself! Huge shout out to the incredible costuming department and team, did you know there were over 80 different variations of the Fantastic Four blue shades before landing on the one we see? Absolutely mind blowing the amount of work that went into this!! #sewingtutorial #cosplay #cosplaytutorial #costumedesign #thefantasticfour #fantasticfourfirststeps @Marvel Studios
Let’s talk hip fins! I get a few asks of how I draft and add the fins bc honestly, every single one is a different shape. You can draft them on a mannequin or on yourself, but they are fun and simple way to add dynamic shape to any outfit! Do you like hip fins? #sewingforkids #sewingtutorial #cottagecore #knightcore
This is what I imagine Sue Storm would wear for the Met Gala, if it happened in @Marvel Studios all of the crazy things I got to see on the set of Fantastic Four, this dress features techniques like light panels, 3D printed fabric and my favorite part…..laser cutting to look like the front of the fantastic four car! Would you guys wear this? #thefantasticfour #fantasticfourfirststeps
